I am so proud of….

On Wednesday my husband David went to the promotion board. He is an active duty soldier in the US Army. I stayed home and fretted would he make it. I knew in my heart he was well prepared by his squad leader, but at the board anything can happen. He came home with a smile, gave me a big hug and said, yes I made it. So now it’s a waiting game for promotion points.

I have also been nominated for some kind of volunteer award. For those of you who do not regularly follow my blog, I am a busy volunteer, at ASOM, Soldiers Angels, and of course my FRG (Family Readiness Group). I am proud that my work has been noticed, not that recognition is why I do what I do. In fact the opposite is true. I don’t like being the center of attention and just the thought of attending some volunteer recognition lunch… Well let’s just say not my thing. If you want to read about some of my volunteer adventures just browse my other blog posts.

Now I just have to get a few surprises in store for hubby & his upcoming promotion.

Well if I want any chance at reaching my goal of bombarding Dad with 100 pages to edit upon his return from France I’d better get back to pounding keys.

Late but worth it…

My time at ASOM on Saturdays is something very special I hate to miss it. I went this past saturday and was once again to meet someone very special. I met and chatted with a member of the special forces. He was simply there with his son and a few other kids. Hearing his descriptions as we walked through the modern section of the exhibits truly brought the museum to life for me. I really think the museum should do a video series of veterans speaking about the history they lived through as they walk through the museum. Who knows maybe some of the stories I have heard will find their way into my writing. Talk about real life inspiration.

Below is a picture of a Huey at the museum.

A special Saturday at ASOM

This morning was not the Saturday to sleep in, despite the late night writing session last night. My husband David and I were due at the Airborne & Special Operations Museum in a few hours. First on the agenda was coffee, running out of coffee in our house is a crime. After completing a number of the normal household type chores we changed and headed off to the museum for their Medal of Honor Day. We were both assigned biographies and tables in separate areas of the museum. I was given two biographies from Somalia. I was stationed in the lobby near a permanent display about the Medal of Honor. While I was there I was able to read the stories of other recipients on the monitors behind me. A second monitor was interviews with those who earned the Medal of Honor and lived to tell their own story. Shortly after starting the interview with Colonel George Day, who earned the medal as a Major. Day was a prisoner of war in North Vietnam and managed to escape, he was recaptured and spent five more torturous years in the Hanoi Hilton, sharing a cell with Senator John McCain. After interview with Day ended I found that there was a small group standing next to me.
A retired soldier standing next to me started up a conversation about the museum and the various exhibits. His eyes filled with tears when I mentioned to him that our next temporary exhibit would cover the story of Mogadishu. I found out that he had been there and in fact personally knew the two men who earned the Medal of Honor for their acts of heroism during that siege. After a bit more conversation he told me part of his story from that horrific day.

I would like to challenge all of my followers to read at least one of the stories of a Medal of Honor recipient.

Chapter 5 is done!

Chapter 5 was a bit of a boring chapter. It is not boring now. I added some spices, the spices used were a tablespoon of intrigue, and a few dashes of well placed humor, and a tiny pinch of romance. I was worried about the length, until I checked out a few other novels from the same genre. My worries were alleviated.

Now on to other things since it’s been a few days since I posted. I have been busy writing, while hubby has been to the range. I am proud of him, he qualified expert on his weapon. Tomorrow morning I have to be bright eyed and bushy tailed when I arrive at ASOM

Well chapter 6 here I come.
